The Junior Fire Company No. 2 was founded December 6, 1838. The three founders were Dr. Alexander K. Mantz, George F. Webster and William Carlton (who was the first Firefighter killed in the State of Maryland in the line of duty on December 22, 1840.) The Junior Fire Company No. 2 was the second fire company formed in the City of Frederick. It was passed on March 17, 1840 An Act to incorporate the Junior Fire Company of Frederick City in Frederick County. The Fire Engine House was built by the City Council on a lot donated by the Farmers & Mechanics National Bank adjoining the bank near Second and Market Street in 1846. In 1872 the Fire House was enlarged. In 1913 Junior Fire Company No. 2 built a New Engine House on their new property located at 535 N. Market Street, Frederick, Maryland, which the current company still occupies.
On March 8, 1913 Architect B. Evard Kepner completed plans for the New Engine House, Junior Fire Company No. 2. at 535 N. Market Street, Frederick, MD
B. Evard Kepner was also a member of the Junior Fire Company No. 2, Inc.
Junior Fire Company No. 2, Inc. is a Charter Member of Maryland State Firemen Association since Jan. 20, 1893
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Junior Fire Company No. 2, Inc., shall be to provide trained emergerncy service personnel to the citizens and vistors of Frederick County, for the mitigation of loss of life and property.
